Warrant Officer Currie was awarded the M.B.E for "whilst being a POW in Stalag 344 from the latter part of 1943 to the end of hostilities, had charge of the personnel of the R.A.F and Dominion Air Forces. An outstanding personality, W/Off Currie displayed the most conscientious interest in his men and it was largely owing to his persistant efforts that conditions at the camp gradually improved."
